Switzerland imports 99 percent of its charcoal and wood briquettes (approx. 13,000 tonnes per year). Assessments conducted by WWF Switzerland show that EPD’s for wood products are often incorrect, insufficient or misleading, that certain products still contain tropical wood, and that illegality riskand/or overexploitation cannot always be ruled out. The project “Olis Kohle” strengthens charcoal production in Switzerland. The charcoal is made from Swiss wood in a process that is sustainable, efficient and that releases fewer harmful emissions. All this within a radius of approx. 20 kilometres!
