Spring 2037: A millennium flood hits the Alpine country of Switzerland. Weeks of storms, meltwater and extreme precipitation sweep away slopes and flood the Central Plateau. The international climate relief organisation, the ‘Green Helmets’, offer the Swiss Confederation comprehensive emergency aid. However, the offer is linked to one condition: Switzerland must join the Green Helmets. In the face of disaster, the Federal Council applies emergency law and decides to join overnight.

But the decision can still be overturned. While thousands of Green Helmets are already entering the country, the Control Council meets in Bern City Hall. Elected by lot, the Citizens' Council has the power to overturn emergency decisions made by the Federal Council within 24 hours. How should the people's representatives decide? Urgently needed emergency aid in return for a duty of assistance and climate service or cancellation of the democratically questionable exercise?

In ‘The Millennium Flood’, high-calibre exponents from politics, business and science meet with residents of this country in a not-so-distant future and test today what may happen tomorrow.

A science-based pre-enactment* by the think tank foraus and the theatre and social project Proberaum Zukunft as part of ‘Politique en Scène: Zukunftentscheiden. ’Premiere: 23 April. Further performances: 29 April | 30 April (U30**) | 5 May (U30**)

The performances will take place at the Rathaus Bern.

Please note that the performances start at 19:00 (doors open at 18:30). Duration: approx. 2 hours

*A pre-enactment is an artistic practice that anticipates and thereby preforms future political events.
